“Food is essential to people, and safety comes first in food.” To strengthen campus food safety supervision and management and foster a good atmosphere of shared responsibility for food safety, on the morning of the 12th, the District Market Supervision Bureau organized a series of activities under the theme “Public Inspection in Colleges and Universities, Safeguard Food Safety Together.” Additionally, the district’s first “Food Safety Supervision Team of College Students” was established.

At the event held at the Qingshanhu Campus of the Hangzhou Dianzi University Information Engineering College, 20 college students from five universities in the district were appointed as “Food Safety Supervisors.” Following the appointment ceremony, the “food safety supervisors” promptly assumed their duties, accompanying staff from the District Market Supervision Bureau to conduct on-site inspections of the school kitchens and affiliated stores. They inspected the storage of food raw materials in the warehouse, as well as the standardization of food processing, cutting, cooking, and other production processes, and also sampled some food products available for sale in the stores.

“Food safety is closely related to each of us. As members of the campus community, we have the responsibility and obligation to safeguard food safety,” said Dai Zhixi, a member of the food safety supervision team. He further expressed that participating in this inspection activity has increased his awareness of the importance of food safety. In the future, he will actively participate in related volunteer activities and work together with his colleagues in the supervision team to safeguard the “Bite of Safe Campus.” In addition to the “you point, I inspect” initiative, a “you send, I inspect” quick inspection window was set up at the event site to provide food safety testing services for faculty and students. Moreover, various methods such as slogans, display boards, and Q&A sessions were used to conduct face-to-face food safety knowledge popularization, attracting many faculty and students to participate.

It is reported that the establishment of the College Food Safety Alliance in our district last year, and the formation of the “Food Safety Supervision Team of College Students,” are concrete practices to implement the “College Food Safety Alliance.” These initiatives expand social supervision and promote community-based prevention and control channels, which contribute to enhancing public participation and transparency in campus food safety. “The ‘public inspection’ of food safety is a people-oriented measure and an effective means to promote social governance of food safety,” said a relevant person in charge of the District Market Supervision Bureau. Going forward, efforts will continue to leverage the role of the “Ling’an District College Food Safety Alliance” as a bridge and link, regularly carry out activities such as “public inspection into universities,” and strengthen supervision over campus food safety to effectively improve the level of food safety management.
