In order to crack down on illegal fishing through net and cage, further clean up illegal fishing gear and effectively protect fishery resources and the ecological environment of Qingshan Lake, the District Qingshan Lake Management Bureau, the District Agriculture and Rural Bureau, the District Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Bureau, and Xinjin Group, etc. jointly launched a special action on the evening of the April 18 to rectify illegal fishing in Qingshan Lake.

That evening, the personnel branched out into two groups, with one group rushing all the way to the entrance of the Jinxi River in Qingshan Lake by taking a speedboat. They combed the lake in search of fishing nets and cages and then cleaned them up by relying on manual labor. The other group patrolled the Mujiaqiao area of Qingshan Lake with the help of intelligence—the unmanned aerial vehicle infrared system. It is reported that a total of 2 law enforcement vehicles, 2 speedboats, 1 drone and more than 20 personnel were deployed in this action. After 3 hours of joint rectification, the personnel confiscated more than 50 cages and 10 sets of nets. Xu Yang, the head of the Water Management Department of the Qingshan Lake Management Bureau in the district, said that they will continue to use speedboats and drones for search and inspection. If any illegal fishing behavior is found, relevant administrative authorities will be contacted to jointly deal with the matter in a timely manner.

It is learnt that Qingshan Reservoir has been classified as one of the eight major prohibited fishing areas in our province’s water systems since March 2022. Xu Yang stated that rectifying illegal fishing is one of the important contents of environmental order rectification in Qingshan Lake. Since the end of March, the Qingshan Lake Environmental Order Rectification Month has been launched. As of now, the Qingshan Lake Management Bureau has jointly organized three special actions with relevant departments, transferred one illegal fishing case, and persuaded 1,500 people out of disorderly fishing. In addition, it has prevented more than 20 random releases of captive animals and distributed more than 1000 brochures. “Next, the Qingshan Lake Management Bureau will continue to collaborate with multiple departments to carry out irregular inspections during the rectification month, regularly crack down on illegal fishing behavior, and consolidate the achievements of the illegal fishing special action.” Xu Yang stated that, in the mean time, the Qingshan Lake Management Bureau will increase publicity efforts, carry out civilized persuasion, and take multiple measures to create a good atmosphere of “no illegal fishing” and “protecting rivers and lakes”. It will cooperate with multiple forces to jointly maintain the aquatic biological resources and ecological environment of the Qingshan Lake water area.
