From April 25 to May 1, the production crew of CCTV’s variety channel show Mantang Hecai (Full House Acclaim) was in Lin’an for the recording of three episodes.
According to sources, Mantang Hecai is a newly launched Quyi and acrobatics show on CCTV-3 that breaks away from traditional program formats. It expands its content to include a comprehensive range of performing arts such as acrobatics, magic, cross-talk, and sketches.
The CCTV crew’s decision to shoot in Lin’an was primarily due to the rise of the Qinshan Blue Bay Comedy Theater and the complementary relationship between comedy, local creative industries, and intangible cultural heritage resources. In addition, the efforts of Hangzhou Daxiao Haizhi Culture Media Co., Ltd. played a significant role. This company was co-founded by the well-known domestic comedy brand Beijing Daxiao Workshop and Boxian Cultural Tourism, featuring a core team of renowned comedians such as Liu Taotao, Guo Jiangtao, and Ye Fengchun. Since 2022, the company has been based in Qinshan Blue Bay Cultural Industry Park, creating the locally distinctive comedy theater.
“This year, they’ve made a change: instead of recording only in Beijing, they’re venturing out, particularly collaborating with local cultural and tourism sectors and small theaters,” said Liu Taotao, the head of Hangzhou Daxiao Haizhi Culture Media Co., Ltd. After over a year of honing and performing, the Daxiaohai Comedy Theater has reached a mature stage in terms of show format, brand reputation, and audience size, perfectly aligning with the program’s needs. “It was almost an instant match; it took just half a month from planning to on-site filming.”
Liu Taotao noted that the program team quickly chose Lin’an due to its rich cultural atmosphere. “As a new resident of Lin’an, I feel deeply connected to its strong cultural vibe and profound heritage, which are very conducive to creativity,” he said. Particularly, the Qinshan Blue Bay Cultural Industry Park by Qingshan Lake has, over the past year, become a hub for new comedy, film and animation, music exchange, and cultural products, sparking creative “fireworks.”
The reporter learned that the shooting was divided into indoor and outdoor parts, with a total shooting duration of approximately 36 hours. The indoor scenes were shot at the Daxiaohai Comedy Theater, while the outdoor scenes were filmed at locations such as the Lin’an Museum, Shangtian Village in Banqiao Town, and Qingshan Lake. “The program will feature a comedy theater as the central theme, incorporating short plays to showcase the Wu-Yue culture, human landscapes, and rural prosperity of Lin’an,” Liu Taotao said. The program is expected to air at the end of May, featuring six local shows selected by the Daxiaohai Comedy Theater, along with appearances by new Lin’an resident Wang Hejun and young Yue opera actress Xu Yundan.
